Electric Cars
Electric cars use an electric motor backed up by Lithium Ion or Nickel metal hydride batteries. Most standard city cars have a top speed of between 30 and 60 mph and use automatic transmission. They do not in themselves produce any emission but emissions are produced by the power station that initially produces the electricity. Electric vehicles are ideal for short journeys or travelling on busy streets and can be simply recharged by plugging into your mains supply.
Benefits:
- Zero emissions
- Congestion Charge exemption
- Parking discounts offered by some councils
- Road tax exemption
- Quiet to drive
- Ideal for short journeys.
Charging batteries
Recharging is usually carried out overnight, it can take 6-8 hours and uses a standard 13amp plug. Ideally you would require a driveway or garage to recharge you vehicle. However there are charging points throughout London and the UK to top up when out and about.
